| Wall/tile replacement |
|
When planning a wall/tile replacement due to deteriorated or cracking, it is best to keep a sample of the loose tiles and bricks. This way we can get a close match as possible to your existing ones, with a supplier.
It is generally best to use new tiles because of the time in cleaning of mastic and remnants of drywall off the back of the old tiles.
Buildings in the Sydney coastal regions suffer from varying degrees of salt damage, particularly in buildings over 50 years old and to a lesser degree to buildings of a younger age.
This salt damage can cause deterioration the structure of walls and tiles e.g.disintegration of the mortar and feting to brick and ceramic tiles.
|
Salt damage to mortar can extend through the brickwork from the front to the full depth and width of the brickwork.
Left unattended, this damage can extend to the disintegration of the mortar and falling down of the bricks, with a possibly total collapse of the wall.
In cases such as this, repointing or cement rendering of the wall will not be structurally sound because the salt damage will extend all the way through the brickwork. This will require replacement of the affected bricks on an individual basis or the whole wall area.
